Initiallyreportedasaselectiveinhibitorofhumanmelanoma,betulinicacidwasfoundactiveagainstneuroectodermal(neuroblastoma,medulloblastoma,Ewing"ssarcoma)andmalignantbraintumors,ovariancarcinoma,inhumanleukemiaHL-60cells,andmalignantheadandnecksquamouscellcarcinomaSCC25andSCC9celllines.Incontrast,epithelialtumors,suchasbreast,colon,smallcelllungandrenalcellcarcinomas,aswellasT-cellleukemiacells,werecompletelyunresponsivetotreatmentwithbetulinicacid.
